ORIGINE Di epoca longobarda da cui turris per intendere edificio elevato-torre
FONDAZIONE Protostorico dalle tombe ritrovate sul monte Calvario, poi sottoposte alla colonizzazione romana. Nelle forme più evolute è riconducibile al periodo altomedioevale.
CENTRO STORICO L’abitato storico può essere fatto rientrare in quegli aggregati sviluppatisi su un rilievo con andamento ad anulari concentrici sfalzati sulle quote di livello a partire su un’emergenza centrale ed è l’unico all’interno del comprensorio che conserva tracce visibili degli apparati murari corrispondenti al perimetro interno e documentati da una torre urbica e da resti degli accessi della porta morella. La qualità dei paramenti e delle soluzioni decorative lapidee della torre campanaria sono i pochi indicatori di un’apertura ridotta verso altre culture.
ARCHITETTURA ED OPERE D’ARTE Chiesa parrocchiale della Trasfigurazione: emblematica l’acquasantiera con la data al 1625 a destra e 1627 a sinistra. All’interno: organo monumentale del 1870;fonte battesimale del tipo a cassone con piede colonnale; croce professionale in argento lavorato a sbalzo e a cesello;dipinto dell’Assunzione;statue ad opera di P.Di Zinni;dipinti ad olio su tela con santi. Chiesa rurale di San Rocco che assolse alla funzione cimiteriale fin dal 1716;croce lapidea sul piano della Madonna; Palazzo Javicoli; Fontana pubblica edificata nel 1797.

FOUNDATION – From protohistoric graves found on Mount Calvary, then subjected to the Roman colonization. In more advanced forms can be attributed to the early medieval period.
